| The
2004 Player of the year dance took place at the Imperial Hotel Blackpool on
the 29th of May. Hearts fans from all over the world came and as usual the
event was a great success and was well supported by the Edinburgh Supporters
clubs including the Orwell, Mill and Robertson's. Although some of them
seemed to take their time getting through the crowds of Hen Nights and Stag
doo's staggering through Blackpool at 8 o'clock in the evening.
The day started of with the
annual challenge match for the Arthur Mann Memorial Trophy which was won by
Manchester Hearts 3-2. This was won for the fifth time out of six for
Manchester who had Neil Pointon guesting, with Henry Smith in goals for
Edinburgh.
A number of former players
were in attendance. As well as Neil and Henry there was Bobby Kirk, Willie
Duff and Freddie Glidden.
Craig Gordon's framed jersey
was won by George Hanley, who very graciously put it up for auction, with
proceeds being donated to the Save Our Hearts fund. It was sold for £200 to
Duncan Lindsay, who had flown over from the USA for the weekend, especially
for the dance.
